How long will it be before we have truly dynamic and personalised soundtracks for our lives?

Movies have long had soundtrack music carefully chosen to enrich the scenery and to complement the action. The music affects our interpretation of the situations, consciously and sub-consciously.

Meanwhile many people routinely use portable players to listen to music as they go about their daily lives.

We carry 3G ‘phones and Wifi devices that make network connectivity almost ubiquitous.

We have web services, such as spotify and blip.fm, that provide us with access to infinitely expandable jukeboxes.

So how long will it be before we have truly dynamic and personalised soundtracks for our lives, delivered through technology mash-ups?

The dynamic playlists could be random, profiled for preferences/context/ time of day, sponsored and interesting.

If you could profile your soundtrack for life, what would it sound like?

  • Duha Awayes

I’m not sure I can profile my soundtrack of life, but it is a very interesting thought, and I would like to know more about the idea. The first thing that came to mind though was “Riding Shotgun Down the Avalanche” By Shawn Colvin, not necessarily the entire song, but I think I’ll choose it as the title for my soundtrack, but still need fill in the rest of the details.

  • Jerry Hartman

Wouldn’t that be cool or what. Should I cut through this dark alley tonight? Cue music, listen, no I better not. Is this green film on the mayo safe? listen, “nope to the trash to you”, or better yet ” I think the neighbor’s cat might like a treat” How to tell if the salesman’s claims are true, listen to the music. He likes you for who you are or wants to get in your pants, listen to his soundtrack.
