Business savvy IT, or IT savvy Business?

One of the [linkedin.com] Chief Information Officer group members, Raghu Kastury, asked a familiar question today: “IT awareness for business users vs. business awareness for IT gurus – which is more important?”

My answer to Raghu’s question: neither, both are redundant concepts.

The common ground between business people and IT people is through the provision of effective information systems. Therefore attempting to attribute direct conceptual relationships between IT and “business” is counter-productive because it prolongs the redundant IT-centric paradigm, a key contributor to the Trillion Dollar Bonfire.

Your mileage may vary so how would you answer Raghu’s question?
