Who do you follow, or endorse? And how do you value and measure management gurus and practitioners, by their reputation, experience or vision?

These questions obviously interest me more than most people because this space is part of my personal sphere of interest and activity: I have a lot to say about how things might be better.

I suspect,though, that many others are also on a similar quest for improvement and knowledge, this is intrinsic human nature.

It even gets into songs.

For example, Paul Simon has written many great lyrics and one of my favourites (from the Train in the Distance) illustrates my topic here nicely: “The thought that life could be better is woven indelibly, into our hearts and our brains…”

The more we share, the more we learn. So maybe you would like to share your answers to the questions I posed at the start of this short piece.

But even those who believe that they are striding purposefully towards a goal, using a travelator to accelerate their progress, may find that they are actually on a treadmill – albeit with a much longer band. Travelators may save time and energy but don’t generate power.

Getting to a destination quickly isn’t much good unless you have something purposeful to do when you arrive.
