I stand by my assertion that nobody needs a Chief Information Officer because I believe we need to move forward from the redundant IT-centric paradigm towards a world of truly effective systems. My campaign is to coagulate the necessity for change into a concrete vision of the future state.
Please note that I am proposing an even more important future for those who currently wear the IT cap badge. Wise ITers will recognise the need for change and make sure they do not get left behind.
So I am not merely conjuring up a cloud of confusion around the terminology of a job title. On the contrary I am in the early provocatory stages of a broader campaign to move the agenda forward. The campaign will continue to develop through this blog and other channels.
It’s time we made IT history.
Elsewhere (linkedin.com) I have observed in a similar debate that aligning IT with business strategy is not only a redundant concept but also like aligning a floor-rug with a muddy dog. Try as you might, the dog will usually paddle around, making a mess of your carefully polished floor, and end up cheerfully sitting where he damned well likes.
