Cybersquatters swoop on financial turmoil

Cybersquatting is alive and well. According to a BBC report internet domain speculators (aka cybersquatters) were quick off the mark to pre-emptively grab possible domain names before the ink was even on agreements between merging/ acquiring financial institutions. The Barclays/Lehmans deal and the Lloyds/ HBOS tie-up were both ripe fruit for the cybersquatters to pluck and then attempt to re-sell.

This is not a new phenomenon, many years ago (OK the mid 1990s) an enterprising group of internet-savvy Leeds United supporters bagged the MUFC.com domain name, long before Manchester United had woken up to the implications of fielding an effective web presence.
