How will Enterprise 2.0 improve Joined-up Management?

Enterprise 2.0 is one of the big buzz terms of the day and every management periodical worth its salt will carry articles about “2.0″ and how it can be adopted. But will the 2.0 Enterprise be any better joined-up than its predecessors? I am not so sure. But I am looking for answers.

There is a real risk that Enterprise 2.0 (and its cousin-bride, Web 2.0) will become a corporate rollercoaster next year, as more and more people rush ahead without understanding the consequence of the new paradigm. Of course, I am in no position to speak against paradigm shifts. But, and it’s a big BUT, we do need to have a clear vision of what we expect from a new paradigm, rather than simply travelling in hope.

So where is Enterprise 2.0 taking us? How will we know when we get to 2.0? How can we get there? The list of questions goes on.

But my principal question is: How will Enterprise 2.0 improve joined-up management?

If we can answer this single question, then bring on Enterprise 2.0 – and the sooner the better, we could all do with more joined-up management.

If we don’t get some seriously plausible answers, though, I think maybe I’ll skip 2.0 and let the early adopters clear out the bugs in the thinking. I am sure that the next version will be even better, with more resilient functionality. Cynical folks might even wait until Enterprise 3.1 ships.
