Information is the power domain of people

We seem to have Freedom of Information Laws and a Freedom from Information culture.

Information is created by people attributing meaning to data, within context and perspective; thus root data can easily spawn an infinite variety of information, due to the divergence and complexity of the people and attributed meanings  employed in the information creation process.

Nevertheless, despite the universal importance of information to our lives, not everyone has equitable access to data and information. Personal and organisational privacy are powerful influences and and are often used to inhibit the free flow of information.

This is a genuine risk when information is with-held from stakeholders – that’s why many countries have enacted Freedom of Information legislation, to protect stakeholders.

Unfortunately, many individuals and groups, who wish to sustain their own power bases, show no signs of changing their attitude to controlling the flow of information for their own purposes.
