Seth Godin talks about leaning into change, well worth watching… Sustainable change depends on effective provocation, as an instigator for essential destabilisation. Sometimes a gentle provocation is sufficient to create the right environment for change. But very often the subject organizations or people are simply too entrenched in their ways to be change-ready. That’s when the provocation needs to be harsher. Finding the right balance between the provocation level and degree of urgency is a skilful art – that can only be learned by experience and understanding. And, by regular provocation.
Any person or organization that doesn’t evolve to changing circumstances is fated to irrelevance. I once baffled a roomful of people by showing a slide that simply (sic) read: autopoiesis, or autopsy? You choose… If this statement perplexes you, then you have a choice:
The first option is instantly available to you and will take no further commitment of your time. The second option may take you off on an interesting tangent, I sincerely hope you enjoy the journey as much as I did. Either way, that’s all from me – I don’t want to disrupt your present equlibrium any more than I may have done already. |
