I think anyone with real experience of corporate IT has got memories of at least a fistful of howlers that would give salutary lessons to others. But we usually keep these nightmares to ourselves, safely behind closed doors, instead of sharing information about our mistakes that could really help others, by providing wider opportunities for learning how to avoid calamity.
That’s why Information Week (U.S) editor-in-chief/ columnist Rob Preston wants volunteers to share information about their biggest IT cock-ups…
Preston writes ”in a week we’ll start a regular feature titled “Our Biggest Mistake,” where we’ll share a short anecdote provided by an InformationWeek 500 technology organization. (Yes, even the best IT organizations make mistakes.) Runaway ERP projects, ill-conceived open source initiatives, and improperly planned VoIP rollouts are just a few of their small tales of woe.”
If you feel brave enough to share your own disaster, please e-mail Rob and maybe drop a copy to me too? (for legal reasons, please don’t name individuals or companies)
