How many of us are waltzing at the crossroads of life, wondering which way to turn next?
We face the daily dilemma of choosing between possible futures, each of which seems to pull us even further towards uncertainty.
We may edge cautiously towards each attractor and yet find ourselves back where we started.
Like it or not, we are all Dancers now – so here are ten terpsichorean tips for maintaining your poise and purpose amidst the hurly-burly.
With the world in perpetual motion and a cacophony of different tunes blaring out of every medium, you may well feel that the dance-floor in front of you looks desperately unappealing, like the one in the dance-contest movie They Shoot Horses, Don’t They - a battlefield that will only reward the last person standing, after much trial and tribulation.
Be that as it may, we are all dancers now and would be well advised to take a few dancing lessons, if we wish to waltz through the difficult times. Here are my tips:
- Don’t sit out the dance
- Watch the direction of other dancers
- Look for the next big gap
- Make sure the floor is sound
- Be nimble
- Look over your shoulder before you move
- Know when to give your partner space and when to close
- Listen to the music
- Add some new steps to your repertoire
- Smile
This list is not quite as simplistic as it might seem and it applies to groups, teams and organizations – not just individuals. Please take a little time to make your own strategic interpretation. If you have some tips of your own, please share them.
